Featured Heroes

Malec, 5, Damascus, MD Malec's teacher told us that each day they sit around and talk about nice things that their peers do for them. One boy said, "When I fell, all the kids laughed except Malec. He asked if I was okay." Another girl said, "I wanted to glue the elephant charm on my art but Lincoln took it. Malec saw that I was sad, and gave me his."

Carmelita, 3,
Salinas, CA
My daughter shows a lot of compassion. She notices when other children, especially her baby sister, Esperanza, are upset. She will rush to give Espy a pacifier if she sees that she is crying. At playgrounds and in stores, if Carmelita sees a small crying baby, she will walk over and provide a hug or offer up a toy. Her mom and I are both very proud.

Alex, 4, Las Vegas, NV Alex attends a Montessori school where his classroom is mixed ages. Since he is one of the oldest, he likes to help the younger kids. Sometimes he's zipping their jackets up when they go outside, teaches them how to do certain work, or comforts them when they are upset. He takes pride in his role as an older peer!

Juliette, 2,
Virginia Beach, VA
Juliette may be little, but she loves to help calm her new baby brother down when he is crying. She always wants to share her toys with him and loves giving him kisses. She is a great big sister!

Aliyah, 6,
MD
Last year Aliyah made a great friendship with a special needs boy in her class. She was nominated to be in a mentor program, where she attended speech with him each Friday. This year, his mother asked that they be in the same class since she had a positive impact on him in pre-k. This makes my heart sing as a proud parent to this amazing little girl.

Nora, 2,
Los Angeles, CA
Nora is quick to give a sympathetic hug and offer to take her family and friends to the doctor when they're sad or not feeling well. Someday she'll understand that not every tear, bump, or bruise requires medical attention, but that's her way of showing that she cares.

Eoghan, 4,
Virginia Beach, VA
Eoghan loves to help his mom and dad by cleaning up the kitchen and picking up his toys. He is also a great big brother and helps to take care of his younger siblings.

Quinn, 7,
Los Angeles, CA
Quinn regularly writes sweet notes and draws pictures to give to her friends to show how much she values their friendships. It's the 7-year-old love language!
